Tips on Creativity

This list couldn't have shown up at a better time for me. Being under a tight work deadline and having about ten different projects going on outside of work, I needed something to help inspire me and keep me going. As a creative individual and working as a Designer in a corporate environment, I am expected to continuously push out creative ideas.  At times this can be tough, especially when I am on a limited time frame and have sporadic meetings that really break up my "creative flow".  This list gives some great ideas on how to think and look at things differently. Here are some of my favorites from the list:

# 1 is probably the thing that helps me the most.  Creating to do lists and focusing on the priorities always helps my mind to be less chaotic.
# 4 Get away from the computer!!  Whenever I get stuck on something it always helps me to get up and walk around.
# 9 I couldn’t make it to work without coffee, just gets me going in the morning!
# 13, 14, 15 all kind of goes together.  It is so beneficial to have peers to be able to bounce ideas off of.  I find that a lot of great ideas have come from using another individual as a sounding board and getting their input and reactions to different ideas.  Sometimes it just helps to talk out loud to understand where you are trying to go with an idea or concept.
#18 and 23 Making mistakes and taking risks is the only way to really push things to the next level.  It's hard to come up with new ideas when you keep doing the same things over and over again.
# 25 Do more of what makes you happy, amen!  I am not always good at this, I seem to forget when I am overloaded with work that sometimes I just need to take a break and spend time with my friends/family, workout, play with my puppy Scout or cook a nice meal.  I always come back feeling refreshed, and usually have some fun new ideas.
# 31 Clean your workspace.  Whenever I start a new project or feel stuck on something, I clean.  It helps me to clear my head and get things out of the way that might be a distraction.
# 32 Finish something!  This is so important.  At times I can have many different projects going on that some things get pushed off to the side.  Again it goes back to priorities and that to do list.  Making sure to have time to go back to those things that I didn't get to and finishing them up.

I hope this list helps inspire you as well and encourages you to push through your creative slumps!  It's back to work for me now that I'm feeling rejuvinated ; )
