Last Thursday I was involved in a fashion show at the Warehouse Winery hosted by Fashion Group International and I am Moody. The Fashion Group International is a global, non-profit, professional organization with 5,000 members in the fashion industry including apparel, accessories, beauty and home.
FGI's mission is to be the pre-eminent authority on the business of fashion and design and to help its members become more effective in their careers. To do this, FGI provides insights on major trends in person, online and in print; access to business professionals and a gateway to the influence fashion plays in the marketplace.
We are very lucky to have an organization like this in MPLS/St. Paul and I hope to get more involved in the future.
The show featured 6 local designers; Hazel Matthy's, Ariel Simone, Carol Fallabeck, Jen Scheffler ,Steven B and myself. The Warehouse Winery had a great open space to host a runway show and had a succesful turnout! Unfortunatley I didn't get individual shots of the garments, but you can get an idea for them through some of the photos from the event.
Thanks to everyone who made it out, it was a really fun show to be apart of! I will be doing a photoshoot of the garments in the next few weeks so I can get things up on the website. I will also be adding a seperate shop page on my site where you will be able to purchase the garments with paypal. A few more exciting things to come soon... stay tuned :)
Something I have always looked forward to is having my own sewing studio. Right now (and in the past) I have been craming my sewing studio into my bedroom which really does not make for a very creative or clean space (as much as I try). I was surfing pinterest the other day and came across some fun inspiration for my future space :) It might be a while till I get a sewing room, but planning ahead never hurts right?!
I came across these inspirational quotes by Ralph Lauren and they really resognated with me. Things to continously keep in mind:
"I am not just making a dress, I am writing a story. While the dress is important, it’s just one part of the story. I write through my clothes with a theme that connects everything that I do. The story starts with a girl. Who is she? What is she doing? In my mind, I create a world around the girl."
"To design without fashion in mind, to design something legendary that has a sense of timelessness, a foreverness that still excites us, is what I aspire to do."
"Fashion is about change. It’s about aspiration. It’s about what’s going on in the world. It’s a blend of many things that are happening, coming from many different directions- uptown and downtown."
"Over the years I have created collections inspired by heroines- from the artistic bohemian to the cowgirl to the glamorous aviator. They are all moods of the same woman enjoying her life and all the roles she can play from year to year, from season to season, from day to night."
"What I do is about living. It’s about living the best life you can and enjoying the fullness of the life around you- from what you wear, to the way you live, to the way you love."
"Personal style is about having a sense of yourself and of what you believe in, which is basically self confidence. When you have that confidence you can wear whatever you want and project something personal about who you are and how you feel. Dressing, then, can be an adventure. You dress for the role you’re playing on a particular day.”
Thanks for your inspiration Ralph!
This coming Thursday I am one of six designers in a fashion show for FGI (Fashion Group International) at the Warehouse Winery in St.Louis Park. I will be showing around 9 looks (if everything goes according to plan) which is the most I have made up to this point. Very exciting! I did incorporate the ombre and hand dyeing into these pieces as well. Below is a little sneak peak of some of the dyed pieces while they were drying.

“I think, “Why do I make clothes? What should the clothes I make be about?” There is just one good reason to do fashion: to make the woman look more beautiful. If that is not the case, it has no meaning for me to create.” -Azzedine Alaia
I am absolutely obsessed with Versace's Spring/Summer collection. The collection was inspired by mermaids and underwater themes where the prints incorporated seahorses, shells and starfish. The color pallete is beautiful with muted pastels of yellow, lavendar and mint green. The details of the gold stud detailing, gorgeous flowing gowns and biker jackets gave this collection a fresh twist that any women would love to wear. I had a hard time choosing favorites from the collection, so I decided to show all of them. Take a look:
